About Us

In days gone by, soldiers weary from battle were afforded an opportunity to renew their spirit, health, and overall sense of well-being in what was known as a “Stand Down.” Today’s Operation Stand Down strives to do the same for those homeless veterans who “battle” the harshness of life on the streets.

Originating in San Diego, California in 1988, “Operation Stand Down” is a grassroots, community-based program designed to help the nation’s estimated 300,000 homeless veterans by providing access to community, state and federal resources. Operation Stand Down Huntsville - non-profit 501(c)(3) - continues this mission by assisting the homeless veterans of our community.
